This is proved by the research? The researchers from Ohio had decided to confirm, whether it is true that the average man thinks about sex every seventh second.
In the student age group, sex occupies a man's mind on average 18 times a day. The women, in the contrary, think about sex only 10 times a day, in other words two times less. As it is shown, the similar proportion is also found in other factors for intersexual phenomenon such as eating and sleeping. The men think about them very intensively.
What is conclusion from that? - There is nothing exceptional in thinking about sex - explains one of the authors of the research, Terri Fisher, the psychologist from the Ohio State University. -The men think more frequently about everything, what is related with body.
Every seventh second? It is myth
It is myth that an average man think about sex on average every seventh second. It is nevertheless true that both men and women have sexual thought every day. Question is.....how often? How one can check it?
The most part of the research was based on the fact that the people were invited to tell about their 'course of thought' of the day - and it is not a very credible method. In fact we are not in a position to recall everything what we think in a course of a day. And that's why Fisher and her colleagues invited 120 male students and 163 female students and ask them to bring small counter, which is normally used for counting golf hole. Nevertheless, when they though about the sex, they were supposed to give themselves point. The same pattern was followed for the reasearch on thinking about eating and sleeping.
-There is a stereotype that men think about sex more often than women - said Fisher. But the result of her research shows otherwise. First, the result vary from individual to individual. There were participants, who were thinking about the sex almost everytime (record:388 points for a day), but there were also other participants who click the counter only once a day. Even though, that who was a record holder with 388 sex thoughts statistically thought about it every 158th second, which is far below than myth of seven seconds.
Nonetheless, there was a clear tendency: man on average thinks about sex two times more than women. And they were not giving more attention to sex than food and sleep.
Why? Most probably men are more conscious about their physical needs. Or they feel happy to note it on counter. The research method of Ohio researcher, however, has its boundary. One does not know what is really single point mean: short thinking or few minutes of erotic fantasy. The research needs to be done on broader area, as this research was based on students under 25 years of age. After all one can see that some of the stereotyppe has very weak root in reality. Hence, if men think about sex every seventh second, they would not have more time left to think for other things.
